The Watlington cottage needed new windows. Its owner wanted to keep a traditional look but without spending the price premium that would be required for a set of flush casements.
Admiral Windows has fitted new uPVC windows throughout the cottage. The new windows are smooth white inside while their exterior faces are foiled to give a grained cream colour. The result is a mellow look that is in harmony with the surrounding brickwork.
Equal sightlines have been achieved by fitting dummy openers to the double window units in the kitchen and wash house – these have only one opening sash each, but the dummy openers mean that adjacent window sashes are of equal dimensions.
Upstairs, the double window units feature two opening sashes each, with floating mullions. A floating mullion enables the full width of the opening to be used for emergency egress.
To complete the period look, these windows are all fitted with astragal bars – a combination of external and internal bars that is designed to replicate an arrangement of muntin bars.
